The storm chase season so far this year has been very dry and upsetting. Today was no exception. We drove to Childress, TX, on the faintest hope that something may happen. On the way down, we were able to watch a very nice severe thunderstorm develop over west-central Oklahoma off in the distance, and we could faintly see the outlines of another storm closer to Lubbock, TX. The upper-level winds were good enough to blow the top of that storm over the entire area we were at which prevented any more heating, further diminishing any convection that could have occurred. We ate at Pizza Hut in Childress before stopping in Wellington, TX, for some sunset pictures. We then headed home. I still had fun going on my first storm chase of the year. It was nice to get out!
